Now that I have spoken about the good... Lets talk about why this cube gets 3 stars today. This puzzle does NOT play nice with even reasonably loose tensions most cubers would attempt to adjust to. There is a major design flaw within this puzzle's midges specifically the way the small midge rides along the tracks of the large "Christmas tree" hidden edges, Due to the size of these edges I have noticed Gan have selected relatively tight springs, and found the middle layer corner cutting to be underwhelming on stock tensions. So I attempted to loosen the puzzle by a Quarter turn each side, standard practice for basically any adjustment, starting with quarter turns and working my way up or down as I go. When I did this, the tensions felt decent in the hand, but when I went and did the first solve the cube encountered a catastrophic pop in which the inner midge, which looks like a very standard 4x4 small midge with only a small single internal torpedo keeping it straight on the track, twisted within and refused to return properly to the tracks of the large edge due to the double tracked design, as a result the midge basically got pinched between those tracks, and when i attempted to wedge it back in the entire edge section DETONATED... and i am going to say right now... assembling this cube is TORTURE due to its design. Its very ironic because this design was supposed to reduce popping, and ended up causing the most violent 4x4 pop i have ever seen and literally sent peices under my desk and bed when i tried to place the edge back in. After I tightened the cube back up by an eighth of a turn on each side it felt way better and has not popped again. However a 65 dollar cube blowing up like that because I loosened it by a QUARTER TURN, not even because of bad turning or trying to fix it improperly, but because of an inherent design flaw in the pieces themselves. This cannot go without being mentioned due to the nature of this flaw and the limitations it places on adjustability, as well as the absolute NIGHTMARE i had getting just one edge section back together.... Like I could genuinely see a lot of these being returned in box disassembled due to these issues, and its a shame because a lot of effort and time went into designing this cube... But issues like this really limit who this cube will be good for. Even with my preferred tensions this cube is NOWHERE near as forgiving as the AoSu, I would compare even the Inner layers for a Gan 12 or 251, this cube is fast... blocky... and rewarding to precise fast turning. Punishing misalignments pretty hard and locking up at times with poor turning. Like my AoSu just BEHAVES... it doesn't lock up even when i get rough with it, and I have basically done nothing but lube it and keep it clean... I didn't touch the screws or need to adjust it at all. If you are looking for a safer bet and do not have the ability to try before you buy, I would feel MUCH more confident recommending that cube to cubers of all skill levels. However if you Like fast, blocky, frictionless turning. And do not mind a less flexible cube. Or are a fan of the GAN 5X5, this is going to be your favorite 4x4 just like it is for me. All in all, this cube is very polarizing, and I feel polarized by it.
