I bought the Cyclone Boys Metallic 3x3 magnetic as a display piece. Regular price for the metallic 3x3 is $16. SCS had the metallic 3x3 on sale during Black Friday and I was able to buy it for $12. I performed 100 solves on this cube before posting this review. I've added Lunar lube once on initial setup, and am using the factory tensions.
PROS
Scratchy, dry, sandy. The magnets provide a satisfying "bump" to help align turns but not get in the way of initiating turns. Corner cutting is okay, perhaps 22 degrees. Backward cut is slightly less at about 15 degrees. Corner cutting would probably be better at looser tensions, but this cube is used primarily to display. Removing the center caps is easy without tools, but spring tension adjustments requires a screwdriver (not provided). The metallic cube is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! The price for this display piece represents a great value. The plastic box in which it comes is a perfectly fine display frame as well.
CONS
The metallic surface is slick, and attracts fingerprints (no kidding, lol). The plastic feels "hollow". Solving is not as rewarding as any of my mains, or even second tier cubes. The colors are sometimes hard to distinguish, especially in places where reflections show up on the cubie faces.
VERDICT
As a speed cube, this isn't great, perhaps a 6 or 7 out of 10. However, that wasn't its purpose when I bought it, and let's be honest, looks trump usability when you have perfectly fine mains on the shelf next to it waiting to be twisted. In fact, I am tempted to purchase six more of these to make force cubes out of them (without stickers, though). Each of the colors would make a great unscrambleable cube, whether solid or patterned. My rating of 5 stars is purely based off of its performance as a display piece. As a speed cube, it would probably be at 3 stars.
